Pacing Yourself At Your Christmas Party
Depending on where and when the Christmas party starts, you may be starting early, and finishing late. You might finish work a couple of hours early, so that you're ready to sit down and eat at a reasonable time.
Try and remember to drink sensibly. There's nothing wrong with having a couple of drinks before the meal, but this shouldn't be an excuse to drink the most expensive drinks just because it's the Christmas Party and the boss is paying.
Remember that there will probably be wine with dinner, so you might want to pace yourself, and be aware of your limits. If you're not normally a wine drinker, then perhaps you will want to stick to your drink of choice, or perhaps you will try something different, after all, it is the Christmas party!
Even if you're sat next to somebody who you are finding boring, and share nothing in common with, don't feel that you need to drink more to make up for the fact that they won't stop talking. It might be the Christmas party, but just bide your time, and then you'll be able to escape and find somebody else to talk to.
By the end of the meal, it might be apparent that some people have drunk more than others. If you've paced yourself sensibly, and enjoyed your Christmas party meal, the conversation and the company you're with, then you should be having a good time, and not feel drunk.
You might feel that you want to let your hair down a little at the Christmas party, and perhaps after the meal is the right time for something a bit more adventurous. Perhaps you'll want to sample a cocktail, or carry with your usual drink. You may be ready to start dancing, or just happy to watch and mingle with people who you don't normally get the chance to talk to.
As the Christmas party progresses, you might be cajoled into dancing, especially if the boss asks. Of course you can't really say no, and it's likely to be fun, especially if everyone is involved!
Enjoy the rest of the Christmas party, and know that by pacing yourself throughout the evening, you won't be drunk before the meal arrives, and make a fool of yourself.
If you've paced yourself properly, the day after the Christmas party, you should be able to go into work, and know exactly what you got up to, and not be worried about whether you were extremely drunk or upset people.
